James’s expertise is focused on helping leaders and teams work out what they’re really after and what they need to do to get there. He provides consultancy, coaching and interim services and is part of the executive education faculty of Nottingham University Business School. He has led training, development and talent management strategies for well-known retail, logistics and utility businesses. An executive leadership consultant and management facilitator, James has led significant consultancy projects at the organisational, leadership, team and individual level.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Be a model agnostic – don’t believe in any of them but look for which are most useful
Which book/film/event changed your life?
I’ll pick a film called Life is Beautiful. The ending always makes me reflect on how terrible the human race can be and at the same time how amazing the human spirit is.
Give one characteristic that you feel every leader should have?
Conscious practice. Without it you’re relying on being a born leader which I don’t believe exists.
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
Taking a year’s sabbatical from work and traveling around the world solo.
What is the most meaningful part of your job?
Making a difference (both at a personal and business level).
