What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Trusting in yourself always helps you meet new challenges. Realising you often have all you need within to do your best. We often look externally first for validation “can I do it? Am I good enough?…”
Which book changed your life?
Going to local college to learn to be a counsellor. Qualified, then crossed over to coaching.
Give one characteristic that you feel every leader should have?
Trust. Working on the assumption you have given clear expectations of role/task, it’s up to you to trust others to go for it. Give people space to learn, grow and improve. Pushing down and telling is ok short term, but is not effective long term. Trust you are a good leader, trust you have a good team and then get out of their way!
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
Leaving Argos as a general manager and going travelling before returning to university to embark on learning to coach at age 50!
What is the most meaningful part of your job?
Seeing people get the “aha” moment when the penny drops.
