In October 2016, two Directors of Black Isle volunteered for a community project in southern Kenya with a UK charity, the Camps Foundation. They were moved by their experiences and particularly struck by the motivation of the people they met to improve their lives through education. As a result, they set up the Black Isle Group (BIG) Foundation in January 2017.

Aim
The aim of the BIG Foundation is to provide charitable support to selected community and educational projects and organisations in Africa, in partnership with the Camps Foundation.

Target
The first project is to build, from the bricks up, a nursery for the Sasenyi Primary School where ninety youngsters currently learn outside. The school is in a remote, semi-arid area of the Tsavo region with over 65% of people living in poverty. The BIG Foundation will fundraise and provide hands-on support to improve the infrastructure and facilities at the school.

The BIG Challenge
Every year, as part of the fundraising effort, we will organise a BIG Challenge. Directors and staff, suppliers and clients will join together to raise funds for the Foundation and then travel to Africa to work on the projects.
80% of people agree that giving up some of the time to volunteer fosters skills that a degree or postgraduate qualification simply cannot.
